Maybe it’s time to talk.

Not because you have a speech. Not because you have proved anyone is “bad enough”. Because something in the last weeks of this series — or in the last years of your life — sounded like a room you already live in. This is the tenth and last piece of *When Peace Depends on You*. I want to keep it simple, and I want to keep it kind.

If you recognised yourself, you are not imagining it

People tell me, in different words, the same four things.

  • “That’s exactly what happens.”
  • “I thought this was normal.”
  • “I thought I was the problem.”
  • “I don’t recognise myself anymore.”

If one of those is yours, you do not need a label for the other person in order to deserve a conversation. You do not need a diagnosis, a timeline, or a friend who will testify. You need a room that is not already inside the story.

That room, for many people, is individual therapy. It is the usual front door. You come alone. You do not have to announce it at home. You do not have to invite them. Relationship counselling and communication work can sit alongside that if and when it is useful. Trauma therapy is there if the body is still on watch. Couples therapy is a later, careful question — only if both people can enter in good faith, without using the hour as another place to relocate the problem onto you. Most people never need that door in order to begin.

What the first contact actually involves

You write to us or you call +356 9985 4942. You do not have to tell the whole history in the form. A few sentences are enough: that you would like to talk about a relationship, or about anxiety, or about not feeling like yourself. We reply within two working days. We help match you with a practitioner. First sessions at Vita Mea Clinic in Mosta are in person, by appointment. You will not be asked to perform a decision you have not made.

If you are afraid they will see the call log, say so. We can think about practicalities with you. Confidentiality is not a slogan here. It is how the work is possible.

The first session is not a performance. You can be messy. You can say “I don’t know why I’m here.” You can cry at the wrong moment or not cry at all. You can spend ten minutes talking about work because the relationship sentence will not come out yet. We have time. We are not grading you on insight. We are making a beginning that your body can survive walking into again next week.

If you have been the strong one for a long time, booking may feel like a betrayal of that identity. It is not. It is the same competence, pointed at you. The clinic is on Triq Sir Temi Zammit in Żokrija, Mosta — an ordinary door, a sign you can look for when you arrive. You do not have to dress it up as a crisis to be allowed through it.

You don’t need a label for the other person to seek support. You don’t need to prove someone is “bad enough.”

How we will speak to you — and how we will not

We will not confirm that your partner is a narcissist. We will not advise you to leave or to stay in a comment, a message, or a first session. We will not use your story as content. If you write to us in distress, the honest reply is some version of: what you are describing sounds hard; if you would like to explore it safely, you are welcome to come in. The work happens in the room, not in a verdict delivered over the phone.

That can feel frustrating if you wanted someone to finally take a side. I understand. Taking a side from outside your life is cheap. Sitting with the complexity is the actual help. You have been inside a story that already has too many people sure of themselves. You do not need one more.

If you feel unsafe

If you feel unsafe or you are in immediate danger, contact the Malta Police on 112 or Supportline 179. Vita Mea is a therapy clinic. We are not an emergency or crisis service. We will still be here when it is safe enough to think. Safety first. Always.

A closing, without a flourish

You have read, perhaps, about self-doubt, about anxiety that was not always yours, about arguments that could not be won, about fog, about a public story that did not match the private one, about edges that moved, about a body that knew, about a picture of ease, about not having to decide. If all of that was only interesting, you can close the tab. If it was familiar, you can treat the familiarity as an invitation rather than a verdict.

Vita Mea Clinic is on Triq Sir Temi Zammit, Żokrija, Mosta. The door is ordinary. The rooms are quiet. You do not have to have it figured out to walk through.

If this series described you, we are here. Contact us. +356 9985 4942. The earlier pieces remain if you want to reread them: start at When did you start doubting yourself?.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to tell my partner I’m coming?

No. Individual therapy is yours. We will not contact them. Some people tell a partner later; many never do. That choice stays with you.

What if I’m wrong and they’re not doing anything harmful?

Then you will have spent some time understanding your anxiety, your history, and your needs — which is still legitimate work. You do not have to be certain of a label to deserve a conversation.

Is Vita Mea an emergency service?

No. If you are in immediate danger, call 112 or Supportline 179. We are a psychology and counselling clinic in Mosta. We reply to enquiries within two working days.
